Bernard I appreciate your response... Yes Porsches are a labor of love... I am so excited to get this thing together so I can actually drive one. I apologize for being a newbie to the the forum and all of the language. I not sure what cis is and I do not thing I have ac... assuming that is air conditioning

CIS=continuous injection system
subd=subscribed(shorthand for subscribed to this posting so that I can receive updates when users add to the thread). It took me six months to get the terminology and abbreviations figured out. Waynes book "101 Projects for your Porsche 911" is a big help. |
Great... I just bought 101 projects so I will read thru it.

Make sure you get a Bentley Manual for the SC also (they come for various models, so make sure you get the SC version). If you don't already have one, post a WTB (want to buy) in the classified section for an SC Bentley manual... They turn up now and then. Or you can buy a new one for about $95. Worth it though. Lots of info...

Welcome !!
Here you will drown in unlimited knowledge and supreme generosity resulting in a more than fair chance of getting firmly hooked on the vintage Porsche legend. Beautiful car! If I am not mistaken it has some features from the Turbo SE/LE of the late eighties. |
Welcome to the board!
I am curious if this 911 is really a 81 or and 83? I believe that Porsche only made Cabs starting in 83. Could this be a Targa conversion to Cab? You might want to check your VIN # over. You could post it here on the board and I am sure someone can give you the heads up. Have fun with the new toy! The search function here at Pelican is amazing, ton's of topics have been discussed at length that you might find useful. Cheers! S |
Hey thanks guys. I really like my Porsche despite the fact I have not seen it together or heard it run yet. All of you folks at Pelican are great with the help. I live a long ways from any Porsche professionals which means locally if it's not a John Deere forget about any help.
From what I have found out about my car is that someone converted it to a convertible. I'm kinda glad they did.. Also thanks to the diagram links. They will help me determine what parts are missing. |
Hey frank... Thanks for the post. The pic you saw was before my late brother in law decided to dismantle it. I have just gotten it back from the body shop and that along with a new top I think she'll be sweet...
Thanks again for the compliments. I do not not know much about these things and it sounds like I have a great car to start with. Nothing money can't fix.... |
rutt row scooby its a red RUF racer convertible! NICE ! welcome to "how i killed my visa in a week club"!
bomber art from world war II B-24.................."HANG THE EXPENSE!" this will apply! good luck that is a beautiful car. |
also save yerself time and headaches. make it a manual top. ditch the motors/cables. giant expensive PITA! ask me how i know. takes me 30 seconds if that to manually put up or take down.
now if yer a glutton fer punishment-S and M kind of stuff. hook up the motors and cables, but i told you so! |
Ya I heard the electric tops are a nightmare. Fortunatly mine is manual....
|
think of the weight savings, the cost savings. your car is faster now and one less big headache.
