8 mm triple square 'socket'

I know of two places on our cars that use a triple square tool (like an Allen) - the door striker plates & the flywheel bolts (at least on the 3.2L motors).

But what size do they take? Is it 8 mm or 10 mm?

I'm asking because I have a chance to buy an 8mm one for a decent price used but don't want to do so unless I need it for the car.

Thanks.

I can't remember either. I think it is 10mm. Either way, Sears sells them.

The flywheel tool is 12 mm.

For what it's worth, Targa top latches employ triple-square bolts (can't recall the size).

triple square? is that what it is called? damn, i have been calling it the "12 pt, similar to a torx/ allen socket, thingy".

On my car, the flywheel bolts were 12mm and the pressure plate bolts were 10mm. They both were a biatch to get off. Personally I think triple square sockets are idiotic and should be banned. What is wrong with a hex nut????

Triple Square is stronger. Never use a Torx (or Bristol spline) both of which look similar - none of these interchange.

Thanks for the answers:
8 mm triple square - door striker plates
10 mm triple square - clutch pressure plate cap screws (some years)
12 mm triple square - flywheel cap screws (some years)

Don't forget the CV joints, although in later years, Porsche went to hex, which requires more fiddling with your torque wrench when you tighten them up.

triple square - a square has 4 corners * 3 = 12 points

so a square 12mm wide, will fit inside that shape? all the points are right angles?

The door striker plates are 8mm triple square...
