Thoughts on new steering wheel...

Need some advise from the board. My steering wheel is now 30 years old and is beginning to show its age.....don't we all.

Anyway, I saw this wheel and was wondering the boards thoughts...
It's called a Nardi Volante.

Thanks
Sean

It's $299 for the wheel (with the Porsche horn button), and $29.00 for the hub...

I think the flat bottomed wheels are kind of cool, but sort of an affectation.

But this wheel looks like it has sat on a table and melted--droopy.

I like it. I'm not a big fan of OEM steering wheels. I only have one because I'm cheap.

And it does have a sort of Salvidor Dali look to it.

This one is choice #2......
It's a Luisi wheel called Squalo, about $100 less than the Nardi.

I prefer the second one. But I won't be driving your car, you will.

I like number 2 as well. I have a Luisi wheel that I bought recently to install on my 83, but I need the right adapter (it came off of a 944). I thought about modifying my Dino hub, but would rather leave it alone. Where did you find these? Perhaps the same place can sell me the adaptor I need for mine.

Thanks

I have the Momo Competition...it really changes the whole feel of the car. It's smaller than stock diameter so the steering feels quicker, but effort increases. It is a relatively thick wheel, which I like as well. It has perferated leather, which seems to be a love it/hate it thing. With a Porsche horn button (get em on Ebay), it looks perfectly at home on an older Porsche.

You may want to consider the Momo Prototipo as well...cheaper than the Competition, less contoured to grip, but thick as well and more "retro" looking. Many vintage Porsche racers used the earlier version of the Prototipo, so to some small degree, it's OEM.

I like those flat bottom wheels because they give you more leg room getting in and out. If you are 6' ish it makes a difference.

Re new wheel

I must say that I find that all of the modern aftermarket wheels (even the expensive ones - Momo, etc.) look like something from a go-cart at an amusement park.

How tall are you? In my 911 and even more so my miata I'd like to have a flat bottomed wheel. Usually it's hard to find any these days that don't look too ricey with bright colored accents or several bright red buttons. The one above looks pretty good. At 6'2" if I get close enough to the wheel to have proper control my legs end up very/too close to the wheel.

Get a Momo Mod 7, its dished. Non-dished wheels are too close to the dash IMIO.

Viper....I found it on ebay. They give you the choice of horn button included either silver or color logo.

I just got a Momo Prototipo on my 74 Targa- I love it. It is smaller than stock but it feels great and it seems like I get more road feel. Also like the thicker grip in the hands. Looks great! The stainless steel spokes with stainless targa Roll bar is a great match. With the hub my wheel is actually further away from the dash- MUCH better!!!!
