I'm in the re-assembly stage of my pedal assembly rebuild and am kind of stuck on the roll pin install. It's not really wanting to start into the hole and I'm afraid of breaking it.
How have you guys who've done this installed the roll pin that holds the whole shabang together? I suppose I could bring it to a machine shop but I'm trying to avoid that. |

Try and make sure the holes are exactly lined up and all is clean.
Not much help I know, I must be one of the unfortunate few, I had no problems at all getting mine out (it was already in several pieces) and back in was easy too. Good luck. Jay

Scott, Get yourself a roll pin punch. Its a punch that has a hole in the end that holds the roll pin. Just make sure that the holes are lined up as said above. I think Snap On Tools sells the punch you need.

I did this just a couple months ago. I used a fairly heavy duty (Kobalt) bench-mounted vice. It took a LOT (those caps are not BIG enough) of force to get it started, and actually 2 or 3 initial attempts at getting it lined up right. I had one person hold the assembly, keeping the pedal/hole & roll pin lined up while HONKIN' down on the vice handle.
At least one end of the roll pin should be lightly tapered. While pressing it in I did notice the roll pin start to bulge a tad under the pressure from the vice. Once it started though, it simply pressed right in. -good luck !

Sears sells a nice punch set for reasonable $.
They come in real handy. With an extra pair of hands, you can hold the pin with some needle nose pliers to ensure things are lined up. Doug

I used a drill to slightly widen the hole at the one end, just to get it started, and then it went in no problem for me.

Well, I got the new pin and this one slid right in with minimal fuss and a (much) bigger bench vise.
