Maybe a stupid question but....

has anyone here ever reused engine oil before? I am about to remove my engine from my turbo to do an EFI swap and I am having a hard time wanting do drain and just throw away my oil.

I just changed the oil less than 400 miles ago to Amsoil Series 2000 20W50 Race oil. What would you do if you were me? Would you get an oil catch super clean and salvage it or just throw it out as if it were 5000 miles old.

It is not cheap oil in the quanities we use.

Now dont flamer me for this post. That's why Im asking.

Any thoughts?

Done it several times. Make sure your container is spotless. If you feel extra guilty--buy a new filter, but at the cost of synthetic oil I don't see any problem. If your motor was newly re-built with low mileage, I'd toss the oil.

Siphon the oil out from the top is the suggestion I've always heard. Can you run it through a coffee filter at a minimum prior to putting back in? I just don't know...

I just did that. Not because I'm cheap, but because I had just put the engine back in two weeks ago (300 miles or so) and now my TO bearing lets go (a different story ). It just seemed like such a waste to chuck almost new oil.

I THOROUGHLY cleaned the oil catch pan with scalding soapy water and paper towelled it dry. I didn't have any empty oil jugs around, so I rinsed out three 1 gal milk jugs with hot water, then rinsed them with methanol to help get all the residual water out.
I was indoors, however. If you're working outside be really careful about not having any debris blow into the oil pan you're using.

Well, it was decided for me. Some crap fell in my drain pan so I am not about to put it back in and Im not going to go through the hassle of filtering it.

Looks like I buy some new!

I feel much better this way for some reason anyway.
