9 3

dj,

I think one of the numbers stand for Glasurit....I think it's a paint company...or something like that. There are a couple threads about the code 624 9 3. I did a search and got a little more information. I'm still waiting for the original owner to respond to an email. May have to check to see if I used the correct address. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

The 3 indicates the paint manufacturer, but I don't know which one.
Glasurit was a common supplier (now part of BASF)

from 1965 to 69 they used a code letter to distinguish suppliers
L=Lesonal
G=Glasurit (now part of BASF)
H=Herberts (now DuPont Herberts)

you wrote:The plate says Made in Western Germany and then it says Kunstharzlack....but, below that it shows what I think is the paint code.

That is correct, that is the paint code. I guess if it says 999 then it is a custom color, if it says 624, then 624 would be a color known to the factory.

dj,

So, if I have the paint code why isn't it listed as a 1974 color? Does this mean that I have a Porsche color from a different year?

Thanks again,

Chris

I have not found 624 listed as a color for any year. On the other hand, they have so many code systems, they might have it listed under a different code series, but I cannot cross-reference it. Is the code actually stamped into a plate on the car? If so, then Porsche should be able to tell you what that code is for.

calling Porsche

dj,

I guess I need to call Porsche again and talk to someone about that paint code and see what they tell me. Thanks again for all of your help. I'll let you know if I find something.

Chris
