One "HOT" 911
Took my wife for a ride in the P, she kept saying the car is "HOT" when we go fast. I'm thinking your a great woman. Then she starts yelling at me that the faster I go the more hot air is blowing on her feet. So after we both stop laughing, I realize my heat exchanger is stuck. My question is can I just block off the duct from the fan shroud ? Another P car owner said the heat exchangers need some fresh air to cool them, any truth there ? I really do not feel like rebuilding the gate and replacing the cables right now if I can avoid it.
thx Pat

Pat,
Just get under the car and manually open the valve. Then, replace it when you can. JR |

As I recall, the "rest" position for the flapper is open, in other words "no heat". You should be able to just push the flapper box open/release the cable so the hot air doesn't get channeled into the passenger compartment. Just jack up the rear of car, support it (carefully!), slide underneath and look up to the spot where the hose from the back of the heat exchanger meets the flapper, and then work your magic!

You can block it off down in the footwelll. Just pull back the carpet and undo the hose clamp where the duct meets the fitting that leads to the rocker. You can insert a piece of cardboard, and it'll be cool until you fix the flapper boxes.
Only a screwdriver required. No more hot wife.
