911 History Footage
I came across this series on 911 history, it's great stuff:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search=911+histoire&search_type=search_videos The videos are the chronological history of the 911s with great factory footage. Just click on the episode of your choice and turn the volume up...the intro to each series have beautiful sounds. Sorry if it's already been posted.

Thanks for the lead. |

I like the oversteer in the early white prototype in episode one. It looks like the car is going around corners with no steering input!

That is some of the best early car footage that I have ever seen! I wish that I spoke French.
Thanks!

I like the front wheel lift of the mid-year Carrera when it's racing around the corner.
That and the flat six engine rev-out towards the end of the intro sequence.

I wonder why this was made? Certainly not just for youtube.com. The factory must have approved as it was 100% factory footage and used the official Porsche crest.
Maybe for French Porsche dealers? |

Some of that footage was used in Porsche's "One For The Road" documentary. Previously, I posted some of the footage from it, which includes some cool factory footage of 911's, 914's, RSR's (and vintage pit hotties, too).
I just loaded the clips on YouTube. Porsche Test Track In the Race Shop Racing in the USA Safety Testing Unibody Fabrication Paint and Assembly Dyno and Road Testing More RSR Shots, and the Joys of Sports Car Ownership

Any way to save them onto the HD?
I've turned off scripting for saftey and got rid of Flash(with slow dialup it's useless).

Some of the footage from the Porsche 911 Introduction at the car show as well as Vic Elford's Monte Carlo win comes from British Pathe documentary footage that's available for download on the web.

Jack,
I've been looking for the "One for the Road" video for 30+ years! Where did you find it? My (then) wife and I are in the Racing in the USA / Porsche Park segment, sitting in our Anthracite '66 912 watching the '73 Daytona 24. A film crew came by and asked if we would mind being in "a short film" about the race. Of course we said "Sure!" We had put it out of mind until we saw "One for the Road" at a PCA meeting about 6 months later. Anyway, if a copy of this film is available, please let me know where it can be found, as I have searched EVERYWHERE. Thanks for posting the YouTube clips. You made my day!

Wow, that's some amazing stuff. I love watching the orange cars go by and thinking "that could be my car"! All of the them hand-made, body work all done by hand, that's amazing. "What the inspector finds faulty, a craftsman will correct." When was the last time you heard the word "craftsman" used in association with a car factory?
Jack and Scott, thanks for posting these!

Thanks Guy... that slo-mo footage of Peter Gregg's RSR lifting and sliding as it goes around a corner at Daytona has got to be the best 911 racing clip of all time!

I too wonder if there's a way to save these locally. Can't find any option to do so at the site.
Jack? ianc

If someone can point me to free server space, I can upload the clips in Quicktime format.
