Differences between 74 Carrera 2.7 US vs European

Hi,

What are the differences between Euro and US version of the 2.7 1974 911 Carrera 2.7 Coupé?

Thanks,

Josep

I believe US made 175 hp with CIS vs Euro 210 hp with MFI. US ride height probably was higher and 'bumperettes' were larger for DOT safety regs. I understand too that US models tended to include more options such as sunroofs, elec windows, etc... than Euro models.

That is how I figure it too. The Euro model had basically the same engine as the 73 RS - well actually several magazines reported it to be a more comfortable and civilized version of the RS.

Us cars in 74 actually had the small rear bumperettes also. PW standard but sunroofs were still optional.

The US Carrera was just a '74 911S CIS with rear fender flares and the Carrera deep Fuchs wheels. A cosmetics only package.

The Euro model uses the MFI engine of the famed '73 RS Carrera. Prices are typically twice as high for Euro Carreras versus the US model.

Jay:

Putting this another way; US and Euro '74 Carrera's ONLY differ in the engine compartment.

Everything else is the same although the TUV forbid the Ducktail on street cars,...

Euro vs USA
Besides the mfi and cis motors

Impact bumper mounts on usa cars actually compress. Euro models were tube style that did not compress- a little lighter
KM/H speedo vs MPH
Euro had H4 headlamps- USA "sugar scoop" trim
Euro had no front bumper side markers- they had a rubber insert instead. USA had lighted reflector assemblies
Euro had white back ground/ no side lamp rear tailamp assemblies (with plated brake lamp socket area). USA had full plated assembly with lit side reflectors.
Euro had amber rear lenses- USA red
Euro had rear rub strips on the bumper with incorporated reflectors. USA had plain strips

Options: Most of the USA cars came well optioned. The Euro cars ; you had to specify a lot of what we took for granted. Cloth centered seats, Sport seats, vinyl, leather etc. Manual windows, (I believe most of the USA Carreras had electric windows) , Black headliner option etc. So no hard and fast definitions here

When fog lamps were ordered, they were chrome housings. In 1975, the factory went to black housings (which continued in that form thru 1983)
Rear bumper guards on 1974 were all the small rubber style- both euro and usa. TThe larger units started in USA 1975

And as a lot of us already know the 74-77 Carreras were known as type 911SC (go look at the aluminum vin plate pop riveted on the passenger side of the front trunk) . So based on that they can join the SCWDP !

So, that is what i remember and really all that matters on the cars is that danged mfi motor !

Dave:

Many early 74's had the crush tubes,...my #136 has them as did the #99 I saw.

You're right; US Carrera's all came with electric windows.

I have no idea what the market is for the CIS Carreras, but the Carrera 2.7 cars with MFI have really moved up in price. Very good ones are selling for $65-75K USD when you can find one. The cars in the UK are even higher than those prices now.

Prices on these cars are running along side the long hood 'S' models now which I didn't expect to see.
