Dashboard Removal?

Hello!

I have a '78 911 with a leather dashboard (no speaker; just vents). Is it difficult to remove the dash? What do I need to do? Any tricks?

Thanks!

Tom

Yep. Breaking your arms and installing extra elbows to get to all the nuts is the real painful part.

We took the dash out of my brother -in-laws wrecked 911. What a pain in the arse...the windshield was already gone, as it popped out as he hit the track wall. Next, remove all the gauges, wires and stuff; find all the small 10mm nuts hiding up under the dash. It least we were stripping this car; I wouldn't want to do this to a live one.

Yep it's a time consuming job! Replaced the dash in mine a few weeks ago.

Followed the 101 book...NO need to R&R glovebox or stereo though. Got access from behind gauges and from behind fresh air blower in front trunk.

Here are some pics. Had a glass shop put in a new windshield too.

My dash also had these trim screws at the corners of the defrost vents. (Not mentioned in the 101 book)

Good luck with your project!

Cooper

Hello!

Thanks everyone for all your insights. I think I'll tackle this project before I go to paint. I was hoping it was a snap... NOT!

Thanks again, the photos are super!

Mahalo,

Tom
