Installing Brake Upgrade
 

I recieved consistent advice from trusted members of the forum that I should upgrade to 930 rotors or larger.

So now I am installing a 930 kit on my 1980 sc. Just started on the front left and it seems that I have clearance issues. The kit came with some longer bolts and there appears to be space for... spacers... but the kit doesn't seem to have any.

The inside edge of the caliper will contact the edge of the rotor if the brakes are fully snugged. Thoughts?

you need 4 spacers (2 per side) part # 930 351 553 01 to install in between the caliper and strut. (Pet 5 parts diagram- oem -shows them incorrectly positioned)
that will center them up w/o interference

the rear calipers need to be machined and spacers made to allow them to be installed on a SC or Carrera

Just buy some thin washers or shims to go between the ears and the strut. Often you need to play with this to get the rotor centered in the caliper. Also, make sure your bearings are in goods shape and adjusted properly.

Thanks TRE! I openned the rear calipers to check if they had been machined and found some spacers zip tied to the machined calipers... So I openned the bag for the front right caliper and found these :)

I suppose this is the appropriate time to advise someone performing any kind of upgrade to first unpack everything and lay out ALL the supplied parts. This ensures that you have everything you need to do the job right at hand,.....:) :)

Its a "Can't find the Forest because of all the trees" sort of thing,...:) :)

Does anybody think those rotors might be on the wrong side of the car?

They came in boxes labelled left and right, but it just doesn't look correct. Also I notice that the vanes curve the opposite direction of the rear rotors which were also labled left and right.

I believe they are backwards... same thing happened to me. This is how mine look now - after correcting them.

Mike your 80Sc DE fun car sounds a lot like the direction I am going... Thanks for the help.

check the vanes carefully- they should angle towards the rear of the car.
Brembo made new rotors where the cross drilling is OPPOSITE of the vane direction.
This will make no difference in braking- just a lot of comments!
