Price of '82 SC Targa

Hello all,

A friend just alerted me to what may be a good car for me. Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 1982 SC Targa with 46k miles. It is red with black interior. One owner, records and no accidents. Apparently very clean. Asking price is $17,800.00 From the research I've done this seems to me a low price for this particular car. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the board. I wouldn't say this is a low price for the car. It would need to be almost perfect. Where are you located at? You are well into the later year Carrera prices. I would get a PPI if you are interested in the car. Make sure they check for broken head studs even with the low mileage. SC's are well known for the lower studs breaking.

A car that age can need serious work even at the low mileage. Studs already came up and there are also suspension and even body (seals) and interior issues that may crop up just from age. At that price the car needs to be near perfect and mechanically very sound. You should not encounter warped leather dashes, shrunk windshield seals, oil drips or saggy suspension bushings.

I would make sure to get a good PPI and go over the car with a fine toothed comb. Also make sure that you really want a garage queen, as you will drop it's value significanly if you drive it anything over a few hundred miles a year ...

Cheers, George

George, Michael, Thanks for the advice. I looked at the Targa and had to pass. I'll keep looking for an '87-'88.

.......I'll keep you posted......

Augustus,

Why did you pass? Wasn't clean enough?

Thanks, George
