Heart pacemakers have Zener diodes in them but I'm sure most people don't want to part with theirs. Sorry it's been a long day in the pacemaker world today and I could resist.

DonMo - take a picture of the unit and point out the bad component. I have an old ECU and can pull the part for you.
Send me your address -I am in Ft. Lauderdale so you could have it in 2 days. Regards,

or if that doesnt work just seach for zy27 at www.jameco.com it looks like it is 2.2 cents - Perhaps you can stock up on resistors and capacitors to spread the shipping cost around.

Thanks all, I ordered the parts. Found a bunch of bad solder spots and hopefully there is joy in the future.

I have bought those at local electronics parts houses in the past, just can't remember the numbers though. They had quite a selection of them.

The numbers are the secret, I tried more than one before getting it right. To high and it won't latch and too little and it burns out. Hopefully I got it right this time. To repeat myself, only time will tell. I never found a direct replacement for the 1012, I am sure it was a Bosch patented Darlington.
