Can't shift into 4th or 5th

Just last week I was able to get my 70 911S back on the road after sitting for 2 1/2 years. The original problem was that the nut that held the pivot arm came loose - requiring pulling the engine/tranny and popping the tranny off to fix (I used the 71 upgrade fix). See http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=348335&highlight=mhackn ey for my recent posts.

Things have been more or less fine until coming home from work tonight. I can not get in to 4th or 5th - even sitting still. Could be related to clutch adjustment? I searched here but did not find a similar issue.

thanks in advance,
Michael

Sounds like you need to adjust the shift linkage as described in the tech section here:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_shifting_improvements/911_shifting_improvements.htm

You might first check that the set screw that connects the shift coupler to the shift rod is not loose.

C4 Pazzo, thanks for the tech article pointer. I thought the search feature searched the tech section too? Maybe not since I didn't find this on mysearch.

I will check that out. It makes sense since these were all disconnected when the engine was removed/replaced.

Regards,
Michael

Well, that indeed was the problem. A simple shift linkage adjustment and it shifts into 4th and 5th now. Of course I noticed that the bushings are worn and the rubber boot needs to be replaced too.

cheers,
Michael
