Nice car but don't know, MM has a lot bad press. On the other hand, it's lasted 9 years so most likely ok, so have a PPI and take it from there.

Why the red fan shroud?

I love the MM "rebuild sheet": "Look these options over and see if if you have any questions to our service"

with a totally arbitrary total of "11,000 including tax!"

Yeah, right. I'm sure the IRS got theirs....

Wrong color fan shroud, cheap steering wheel cover, sagging headliner and visors. What's up with the left two gauges, should be fuel/oil level and oil temp/oil pressure looks like they're from a 912. Especially fond of MMs use of part #s on build sheet "German" and the ridiculous 245 HP claim. What's really in there?
Good Luck!
Oh, and to answer the question, yes but they've gone way past what it's worth to me.

Would you buy a car that has a gearhead rebuild? Say an engine that I built? Or does it have to be only from the prime shops around?

If you read carefully, there are new pistons, but the cylinders are not new. Bummer for 11G (8 years ago!) I'd buy this car, if it was priced well, had significant miles since the rebuild and checked out well in a PPI. I have met several people with MM engines that held up okay.

I agree with others above that that invoice is a joke and the car is already way too pricey to be a good deal.

It looks as though the owner has checked the box that says the mileage exceeds the mechanical limits of the odometer (see title)

Right...it's not a 911E, its a 911E with a 2.7 motor built by a known questionable firm with a playschool build sheet, the wrong guages, and some other sketchy items. But it presents pretty well.

But 27K???? Thats really strong money for a car that has some of it's juiceier bits , like the MFI, gone. I just wondered if my perception of early car value was off....maybe I should call Haggerty and increase my declared value of my 73E, LOL.

They are not wrong, the gauges were used in T' basic models...

I would rather to take one of the S models that are up for restore, really nice cars and will beee soo much for, at least I think so.

The car has some flaws obviusly, but nothing hard to fix, but I think is will be more and more cash to have it perfectly... Plus "I" hate not to have a matching numbers car, it makes me sick.... but that's only ME.

It's a very nice looking car and the motor has been together for 9 years-how bad can it be (famous last words). I agree it's more than I'd pay but in the end, i'd bet it will be a good buy for someone. There is no denying- early cars are ON FIRE! It's not too late to stuff 3 into the garage and let them sit for 10 years.

Polished wheels on a 72E is all you need to see!! Don't bid. The build sheet is a joke, and you would have to spend a ton of money rebuilding the motor to proper specs. again for it to be a truly valuable car.

it's not original to command such a high price for a 72...but they, that's what bidding wars do.

I don't believe for a minute it produces 245 HP. A 2.7 did not come in the car so basically you would be buying a 1972 chassis and as someone mentioned earlier "a questionable engine". Not my cup of tea.

I think Monty Python said it best. "Run away Run away".

The title is checked that the mileage exceeds the mechanical limits, so that seems to say the car has 189000 miles at a minimum. Like so many others have said, the build sheet looks like something put together by a 6th grader. No part numbers, or prices for parts and services. I'd like to know how they built a 2.7 from a 2.4 without new cylinders and boring the case. For the amount of money bid on this car, too many things don't add up. When they said "Special Engine", they were not kidding.

It would be interesting to see what the prices for all the "new" parts would be if everything on that sheet were priced out on our hosts site. I know prices have changed in 9 years, but curious none the less.

The car does look nice. I'm not a huge fan of polished Fuchs, but they work with that color.

MM rebuilds motor in 98 and owner has car in storage from 99. The answer is NO, NO, NO, But I like the high price, now I can show wife the dollars spent will have value.

Final bid was $27,650.

I have this bridge I'd like to sell.

And check out the winner's feedback. It is all in German. I suspect some poor German is about to be introduced to MM's build quality.
