Tim Hancock 06-06-2007 09:02 AM

Let me guess, all the dirt that then K&N let flow into your engine made your throttle stick WFO ;) :D

Rusty Heap 06-06-2007 09:03 AM

wow spelled upside down is MOM!

you shouldn't let your Mom drive at those speeds!

joecrum 06-06-2007 09:04 AM

Just wait until you put that cool collar on!

RV Flyer 06-06-2007 09:05 AM

And a cool collar???

Hey, are you sure that the cool collar on the oil filter wasn't part of the reason for the huge performance increase?? :p

Man, I need to get a K&N for my '78 - look out, Yellowbird! :D

RV Flyer 06-06-2007 09:07 AM

Jeez, Joe, you beat me to it!

Tim Hancock 06-06-2007 09:20 AM

RV Flyer, will you and your RV be at Oshkosh this year?

berettafan 06-06-2007 09:26 AM

2 mph slower and you could've just made a back door reference to two of the greatest threads in Pelican history!

the 06-06-2007 09:28 AM

How much boost are you running on that filtercharger?

DARISC 06-06-2007 09:31 AM

"2 mph slower and you could've just made a back door reference to two of the greatest threads in Pelican history!"

Mmmmplease - post the link?

the 06-06-2007 09:34 AM

K & N AIR FILTERS...

David,

Maybe your old filter was well over due for replacing... What is the consensus on the K & N Filter? Does it improve the engine performance, or just cheaper to clean and re-use for the long haul?

Thanks,

DARISC 06-06-2007 09:50 AM

"What is the consensus on the K & N Filter?"

I think I've just touched that issue with a 10 ft. pole (and prolly shoodna') :)

berettafan 06-06-2007 09:53 AM

charles keiffner (did i get that right?) is the K&N guru on this forum and is a big fan.

beretta fan.......... I before E ! K-I-E-F-F-N-E-R emphasis on the K and the N! sehr deutsch verstehen sie?

so as not to disappoint the masses.......please dont go roundy round with the spray oil like so many here have because they are too smart to read the instructions.

spray each pleat once. let dry 20 minutes. come back re-oil any spots you missed. wipe off excess. let dry.

place in car.

if you dont do this to the letter, and foul things up, well, you get to join the others sitting on the "group W " bench!

167mph sounds about right for my car at calif. mtr. speedway turn 4 into turn 1! with a K & N!

hmmmm jim patrick runs K & N's on his mega buck 3.6 914 from HELL...........they must be crap!

hmmm mi amigoes just finished 17th in the baja 500 last sat. running K & N's on their car. their combined age 127 years old. do the math!

mi other amigo finished 2nd in class 7X with K & N's last saturdays baja 500.

i just wonder what ragland was running for the overall 4 wheel win????? hmmmmmmm???? i just wonder????? LOL!

berettafan 06-06-2007 11:54 AM

sorry charles...i was close though!

DARISC 06-06-2007 12:10 PM

Incidentally, My SC does have a K&N, put on by the PO and, even though my SC only has 194k miles on it and runs OH SO SWEET, I'm going to take my chances with COMPROMISED MOTOR LOGEVITY! and am going to keep using it - NO MATTER WHAT Charles Keiffner says!!!! :)

PeterCarrera84 06-06-2007 02:21 PM

DARISC, I just went over 192k, !!! I have been using the K&N flat at first, and then the cone since last summer. I love it, it whines like a piglet !!!!(turbo ) !!?? ha ha. (:

I see the sign...don't see any cars. ;) But 167 over that little rise would give you a rise.

charleskieffner 06-07-2007 02:39 AM

what is the advantage of the cone vs. the flat filter aside from the pesky backside latch on the OEM airbox, that is a PITA? interested in a pound or so weight savings removing airbox. where did you get the adapter and how much?

PeterCarrera84 06-07-2007 04:57 AM

Hello again, the cone and adapter came from Vertex auto @ 866-668-0660 there in Miami. it was then $119.00 plus ship.
regards, peter

charleskieffner 06-07-2007 05:03 AM

hey thanks. no brainer to mount? and it removes clumsy PITA OEM airbox. hell i save a pound in weight and gain another 1000 horsepower.

now thats a DEAL!

about the only time in my life i have regretted being 6'3 long arms and big hands is working on my p-car! geez those guys cram 500 pounds of crap into a 1 pound engine compartment!

thanks for the pic. saw some from a distance at C.M.S. in fontana . appears (4) allen bolts for adapter and hose clamp for filter. too kool-too simple. well worth the bucks vs. aggravation of stock airbox.

should take about a 12 pak if i rush things..........god i love these projects! LOL!

vertex wanted 289 bucks w/RAIN SHIELD!

hell we hit 5" of rain in flagstaff last year with fabspeed open airbox cover and K & N and engine never missed a beat.

Mitch Leland 06-07-2007 05:59 AM

CONE VS FLAT...

Thanks Charles for asking the question, when I read the earlier thread I had the same thoughts. Can anyone tell us why the cone air filter is better than the flat filter.

Can anyone post a pix of the cone filter set up?

Thanks,

charleskieffner 06-07-2007 06:27 AM

mitch after fighting w/my stock airbox when i replaced really nasty P.O. mahle airfilter which did pass crap into my MAF, and cause it to die and i had to replace. i went w/K & N oem style flat filter. fought w/stock airbox cover fastening due to hands too big and rear fasteners being next to imposible to fasten w/out enlisting lil people to help fasten.

next bright idea was fabspeed airbox cover out of carbon fiber. wayyyyy overpriced but nonetheless was easier to attach.

we rain tested this in flagstaff last july when MONSOON nailed us in downtown flagstaff w/5" of rain. as it hit i looked for clear sky on I-40 and pointed cab towards less precipitation . so we tested top(which leaked on drivers side front) and fabspeed cover box.

fabspeed worked fine thru out mad dash from city onto I-40. stop/go traffic, up to 75mph on freeway until precip. stopped.

im going cone route for weight savings and ease of maint. of filter as well as not having to hassle w/goofy a$$ fasteners on oem airbox and fabspeed fasteners.

Isn't ten guys a bit much on a Baja team? ;)

Mitch Leland 06-07-2007 06:40 AM

Charles, thanks for your input and road test... For me I found that the only way to get the rear filter box snap back on is to have the oil filer removed. I would still like to see a pix of the cone filter set up installed. Any ideas where I might go to see it?

Thanks,

DARISC 06-07-2007 06:58 AM

"Isn't ten guys a bit much on a Baja team?'

HAHAHA! Funnnny image Jeff - ten 12 yr olds running Baja!
(no offense intended Charles - but it's a funnny image!)
