Shifter install - don't do this
 

Installed new Wevo 915 shifter but ... when installing the shifter I forgot how the "free floating 'L' shaped bracket" went back on ... 4 plus hours wasted and after ordering new "L" bracket and finally decided to try it placing the bracket where it is supposed to be: the bracket fits under the shifter base and the bolts screw from base thru the bracket and then into the tunnel - I had been trying to install the bracket underneath the tunnel, i.e. screwing the bolts thru the base, the tunnel and then into the bracket - in other words, I am an idiot, but after stepping back, tacking a nap and rethinking and finally got it right - 5 minute job that I labored over for 2 plus weeks. Don't do it this way!

I think I vaguely remember trying to do that years ago when I first got my 911SC and was trying to sort out the mess that the PO had made of installing a short shift kit. It definitely added an hour or two to the job.

Last year I had that bracket out to replace the bushing (since I was replacing coupler bushings at the same time) and I actually got it back in the right place the first time. So there is hope.

I am installing my WEVO shifter now that I have conquered the pedal cluster.

Unfortunately I believe I damaged the hex head of the M6 bolt that must have been torqued to 1000 lb or something close....

Does anyone have any ideas how to extricate myself and the M6 bolt respectively from this predicament?

I'd switch to any number of bolt extractors on the market, such as the Craftsman set at Orchard Supply. Stay away from cheapo tools for this type of thing. You need something made with hardened steel.
