Turbo/whale tail: to sell or not?

I have a 1977 911 targa (Euro model) and recently replaced the whale-tail style decklid with a plain one. It's a one-piece lid (not a bolt-on tai). It's fiberglass, so I assume it's not original to the car.

I'll never use it on the car myself, and am thinking of selling it.

But would it be an important thing to keep if I were to sell the car later? (make it much more valuable?)

Also, what is something like this worth? It's in very good condition (a few scratches on the rubber tail part).

Thanks.

Joe

Hi Joe,

If it was original OEM, then the next owner might like to have it. Are you planning to sell the car soon? It is probably worth between 200-500 on Ebay. Will someone pay $500 more for your car because you have the tail? Probably not.

I got 600 for mine. OEM(tea tray). So, get the $ now or later. I say get it now and get something you want for your car to make it more enjoyable. Unless the sale is imminent. IMHO

Joe,

If its all FG it is probably not OEM. I had a combo rubber/FG one that was also not OEM. The OEM early turbo ones were combo styles. The rubber should have a Porsche crest embossed in it at the center back edge of the lip. Correction: perhaps not on ones earlier than 3.3l models. Many mistake it for an IROC or call it a baby IROC tail. I got rid of mine to another pelican for $200, but it needed some work.

I am currently looking to get one of these all FG early turbo tails so if you choose to sell let me know ASAP!! PM or e-mail to euro911sc (at) hotmail.com ... er... or does it have rubber on it?

Best regards,

Michael
