Back-dating 78SC— trim questions—HELP!

In regard to changing my trim from the black that came on the SC to the silver (Windshield trim, door windows and rear window. (don't need quarter window trim, using glue in 911r style windows)

I'm trying to determine what is the best/easiest/cheapest way to get the early look. Is it possible to buff or sand out the black finish? Do I need to just locate trim from an older car and does anyone know who might have some?

Any help is really appreciated. As always, the only reliable place to get the best answers anyway is right here.

Many, many thanks,
Mark

The hoped for least expensive way is to find someone with 69-77 bright alu trim. But it depends on how particular you are regarding finish and old scratches. For most street drivers , this is not an issue . Show expectation is another kettle of fish.

The other detail is the rear quarter windows. Most SC's came with fixed windows. Early cars came with opening windows. RS lightweights came with fixed windows. You cannot find the bright alu fixed window trim new anymore (76 912 E came with them)

So you face the following choices on the quarter windows:
1) find used pair of 912 E
2) change over to opening style- threads posted on this board for this
3) take your trim apart and polish it

On front and back windows, just buy the stuff new- its not that expensive and looks so much better than the twisted spaghetti that results from doing it by hand

Another idea is glass beading. Several people have done this to their black trim and it lends a nickel rough "RSR" finish to the trim
