Converting an '89 to a 915 Tranny

What would the process involve to convert a '89 (roller) to be able to accept a 915 transmission? I rolled my '86 and bought a beautiful '89 roller and am deciding my options.

Kevin,

What in the world were you doing? Were you at least wearing your seatbelt?

A friend of mine rolled it at Streets. I could get into a philosophical discourse on whether a G50 is "better" than a 915, and what "better" actually is and win both sides of the argument. Currently I'm in the market for the G50 but I want to know my options. The roller is a metalic black Silver Anniversary and it has everything short of the clutch package and tranny. So the conversion sounds like a big nasty job. My understanding is the pedals have to be replaced (which I have) and the c;utch line tube needs to be installed if that is the right term. Is the process revesable?

He's fine. He had to crawl out of the front windshield but if you listen to him tell the story he did something heroic

How can you have a "roller" w/o a trans?

Find the G-50. You'll need it with that fat pig of a Carrera....

Yes, pretty involved and since you have the padals, it will ver less $$$ & mush easier to drop & G50 back in. Keep looking, one will pop up.

You will need the 915 cross bar - and you'll have to move the rear engine mounts. It's doable but not for a reasonable amount of money.

Like the others have said, for what you will pay for the conversion, you can buy yourself a nice G50. If your 915 is still good you can sell it and recoup some of the money off the purchase of the G50.
