Turn signal lights "on" after key removed
I recently picked up a 1988 911 Cab (24k original miles). I noticed when driving the other day that the turn signal lights stay on (not flicker though) even after I remove the ignition key. It turned out that the turn signal post had not returned to the center position. When i flicked it back, the lights went out. This cannot be normal.
Any ideas? thx |

Perfectly normal. German engineering. It's been said that it's for parking along the narrow roads overnight.

Red 88 is correct.
If you'll check, they're only on on the side that the signal stalk is turned to. Make sure the TS is off before turning off the key. Or not. |

Thx, I would have never thought it was intentional
![]() I did see that it was always the side I had left on. I just wanted to be sure it was not some relay or something tied to the flasher lights or something else.... In most cases after I finsh my turn it turns off but these few times it didn't and I saw them on. It just worried me as I suspect over time it can wear down the battery. |

Yep. My '69 and my '95 do this. I find myself using it too when I'm working in the garage and one of the cars is parked on the somewhat narrow street outside at night.

It's called parking light in Germany and is required when parallel-parking in a dark street. The side facing the road should be on.
MikeZ uses it as a pick-up line in the local bar: Woman goes"Hey, you left your lights on" He goes:"No, no, this is intentional. It's a German car. A Poacha. You pronounce it Porrshheeee. Whad'ya think, you like to ride in it somedays......?" Most times the conversation finally deteriorates into discussing penis-extension toys and finding out whether she knows the difference between a boxter and a porcupine and such. But still, it is fun...... ![]()

Now that you are convinced it's intentional, always look back at your car(like you don't already do) when you park it for the night or for a few days. If you accidently hit the indicator stalk when leaving the car and don't notice the light on, you could be in for a dead battery upon return. And, of course, "ask me how I know."

I wonder if that is what the huge battery is for?
