'78+ 3.0L Motor?

Hey all. My '77 911S had a '78+ 3.0L swapped into it, and I was just wondering how I would go about finding out exactly what year the 3.0L was from. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Find the serial number and the engine type number on the right side of the fan where it rests in the case. These will tell you what year and type of the engine. If the engine was rebuilt or modified then there will be no way to tell without a build sheet or teardown.
