one caveat would be that if you use the cig lighter cord, you may not have an ideal connection if you want super-accurate readings. If that's the case, you can always hard-wire your 8500 to a suitable wiring location to get a more accurate reading.

Yep,..she 's working great....compares nicely with digital meter applied to cig lighter..happy there. As well,..it appears to (surprisingly) remain comparable to the actual battery posts...even happier,..ALL finalized with my trusty Fluke!!! Slightly less elegant than some of the other choices, but for $6.99 I can live with this. And it is the best lit gage in my car at night. (No suprise there. :rolleyes: )

I like gulf908's idea and picture (from page 1 of this thread) of using a factory porsche part (clock blank). Problem is, at least one website (see below) says this part is no longer available from porsche. Anyone have a part number and/or can confirm whether or not it still available from porsche??

Also, if anyone has bought one of these, what was the cost? (I'm just curious how much porsche would charge for a 3" piece of plastic - even if it is no longer available).

By the way, for anyone looking for a "super easy" install digital voltmeter, this appears to be the one.. Only $53 at JC Whitney, and digital too... No need to mess with wires or brackets. Although I don't have any personal experience with it, so I can't really endorse it, I am considering one...

Edit - Regarding the warning feature of the passport, I thought others would like to know that this gauge has something similar. Description I found from a different vendor is as follows.

"Plug-in style. Features scrolling 'Hi' warning if voltage reaches 16 V and scrolling 'Lo' warning if voltage reaches 10 V. Not available with memory feature or adjustable low 'gauge flashing warning'."

Man, bummer... I really like that look too and always wondered what the charge was to get it. Guess I will have to put that one on the backburner for awhile.
