My Alternator Is Tweeting!

I'm currently on a long road trip in my '88 Cabriolet and am hearing a tweeting noise coming from the fan pulley area. I'm pretty sure it's not the fan belt. Sounds like it's coming from the alternator. I hear is at idle speed and while accelerating. Could this be the bearings starting to go out in the alternator? I'm not experiencing any charging problem.

Steve

could be the bearings.....look closely at the inside of the fan shroud to see if the fan it touching it, you'll see tiny scratches if so......this would mean the bearing are real bad.
also check the clearance between the crank pulley and the fan shroud, mine shifted once and started touching it (i didn't have the pin underneath lined up)

I had this happen. But when I replaced the alternator and still had the sqeek. Then realized it was the distributor. A few drops of oil and no problems since.

Check the easy/cheap stuff first.
