3.6 Exhaust / Muffler
I have an SC with a '92 3.6 engine and B&B exhaust (w/ heat) and single out muffler. I'm converting the car to a '74 RS look and would like to get a more period look by using a dual out in-board pipe muffler.
Is there a muffler made that will give me the look I want and which will bolt up to the B&B header? I see that Patrick Motorsports now has a 3.6 SSI header w/ a dual out sport muffler which should work. Anyone run this set-up? This is a street car, so the sound can't be too menacing. Other options? Naturally, I'd like to keep the cost down, but I want to get this right the first time too. Thanks, Hugh |

M&K may have what you need, contact Ben and ask it can't hurt.

I'm struggling with the same thing on my backdate. What I have now doesn't look too cool. Like Ben said, the B&Bs push everything so far back and the tighter early rear bumper cuts the space way down. Maybe Triad can do something? Dave B at TRE is looking into it for me.

It also depends on if you need to be smog legal.....my tub is an 83 and it's CARB approved with the addition of that cat pipe.

Hugh,
If you are interested I have a set of 993 heat exchangers with the passenger flanges flipped then fitted with a flow master muffler. Presently it is a one out but the second out is capped and can have a second outlet put on. Tom

Thanks to everyone for sharing your insights.
I'm not going to run a catalytic converter on this car. Troy, I'd certainly be interested in hearing about any new developments you work out on your conversion at TRE. Tom, I'll look into using the 993 HE as an option as well. Could be a fit if the muffler works out. Is anybody using the SSI 3.6 HE w/ 2 out sport muffler? This seems pricy, but may work the best for my purposes? Thanks again, Hugh

I just finished the conversion in my 81 Targa.
I'm using the 993 exchangers with one side flipped and Ben's muffler. My configuration uses the 993 aluminum crossover tube above the muffler. The heat fan was replaced with the carbon tube. Even though you's have to replace your B&B stuff out it this might still be a quick and relativly inexpensive option if you still want heat. The sound is awsome!

Hugh,
I have heard that SSIs are too small for 3.6 and negatively affect HP. Troy

Here are picks of the exhaust consisting of 993 heat exchangers with flipped flanges on passenger side, together with a flowmaster muffler. The port on the passenger side of the muffler is capped but can be easily taken off and left as is for say a track day then put back on, or for a more permanent fix is to add a tail piece. The entire package with hanger and hanger straps and both exhaust gaskets can be had for $800.00. The work was done by Jerry Austin, who is a well respected Porsche mechanic and a fellow Pelicanite. I am presently listing this in the classifieds here.

I used custom B&B headers, Flowmaster muffler and 964 heat. The B&B were specd to have 964 heat inlets and 911 heat outlets
