Found yellow A/C oil in this morning's evaporator puddle!
I guess the system is not going to be stable til I replace every friggin 20-yr old component! So I've got that going for me, which is nice!

I think the answer is......No. When my compressor started slinging oil out of the shaft seal I thought about rebuilding it. But others on this board pointed out that a rebuild only replaces the seals and there are other wear parts that won't be replaced. Then I was afraid that after fixing one thing, another 20 yr old component would finally break. Since the only way I'm getting rid of this car is via my will, I decided to rip the old system out & start from scratch $$$$$! But today with my wallet $1500 lighter the system works. I guess that slope just keeps getting slipperier...

Wow.
I bet between my AC parts and yours, we could make one system that sort of functions. |

"the only way I'm going get rid of this car is through my will"
my sentiments exactly. I think it would make sense to evacuate the system, and pull a vacuum. See if there are leaks. If not then you're good. If so, then it's a good excuse to buy one of the upgraded evaporators that bolt right into the stock evap box. They look slick. I never did figure out why people put that sticky black goo on the expansion valve though. |
