I'm hoping your theory is true. I believe there will be a lot of people in the future who find good rollers, or cars with bad engines that want an alternative to the expensive and relatively unreliable Porsche engines. I am seriously considering making conversion kits for sale. Just not sure if there is enough of a market yet. We'll see.


To be honest, I wasn't expecting this much understanding on this board. I have been building this car for a few months now and after reading all of the bashing going on on the V8 conversion threads, I have been scared to post about my project. Thanks for the kind words guys.

I like it.. it looks good I am not normally for this type of thing but it looks well done and if you are not hacking it up then whats the difference.. However the statement of unreliable porsche motors I am not so sure thats true.. that seems to be the case as they become modded but for the most part pretty tough engines

i think if the idea, planning and work is solid, there's much more 'tolerance' of 'out of the box' thinking around here.

Not to be mean though....it is not a 911 anymore.

I didn't really call them outright unreliable, I said relatively unreliable, meaning I'm comparing them to engines made my other manufacturers (mainly Japanese). I understand that there are 3.0 and 3.2 Porsche engines that have a ton of miles on them and still run great, but the Japanese manufacturers have taken reliability and low maintenance to a level that no one else can match. This is just my opinion though.

I know, it's only really half of a 911 now. That's okay with me for now because I've only payed half of the 911 cost. :)

Although does that mean that guys with 3.6 conversion in their early cars only have half a 911, and half a 964/993? :) (not the same, I know)

Sorry...not even close to half a 911. I personally would have rather seen the car rust out with old age in an old barn than to have "anything" other than a flat6 put into it.

Again...I like your craftmanship and heart for the project, but it is nowhere near a 911 anymore.

Trust me, I do appreciate your compliments, especially since you don't exactly agree with the conversion. Sorry if you got the impression I was mocking you or something.

Its all good. I would not exactly call me a purist, but one of the reasons I fell in love with these cars way back in the 70's was the sound of the "Porsche flat 6". ;)
