Wobbly steering column!
Last time I drove the 911 (81 sc) I thought the steering column was slightly loose. It moved about 1/8 of an inch up and down, I didnt think much of it, I thought maybe it was always like that and I never noticed? Next time I took it out it moved about 1/4 of an inch by the end of the drive. Obviously something is wrong, and getting worse. I'm not driving it, because the steering going out, in motion, is not a fun idea.
how do I troubleshoot? What has failed? thanks JIM

I guess you bought the bushing ($ and quick fix) and not the replacement bearing ( $$$ and much more work). A short length of old ceiling fan drop pipe is the perfect size to fit over the steering shaft and press on the replacement bushing.

Yeah, just the bushing. I have various pipes and things that should fit, thanks for the info. I have a Momo Hub adapter so I will need something a little longer than the stock steering wheel type.

I had the same problem with the steering column and replaced the steering column bushing and good as new. I bought the part right here through our gracious host. Easy fix.
