95 993 engine into 74 911

After years of looking at my 2.7 in pieces and anticipating the re-rebuild I have found a 993 engine to put in my car. The idea of it is very exciting.
My first question is what should I get from the donor car. I am getting the engine intake to exhaust, the computer and the computer wiring. Is there anything else that I should try to get like fuel pump, lines, oil cooler etc. The car is a 95 with tiptronic transmission. I do plan to use my original 915 transmission. Also ant other advise on doing this 3.6 conversion will be much appreciated.

Engine, DME and wiring harness are all that you can use wrt a t/p. You may or may not want to use the stock headers and cat.

You will need a flywheel, ring gear, t/o bearing & associated hardware, and a conversion harness.

Best to get a package
try looking here Instant G

A tip engine harness doesn't have the wire to run the back up lights, but it is easy to fix, talk to Steve at the above site.

You may also want to think twice about retaining the stock trans.

I thought only a 3.0 would fit in that year of car?

A 993 engine can be fitted to any year 911.

I hate to ask but why shouldn't I use the original transmission?

What I got from that discussion is that I could use the transmision if I changed the to 8:31 and change the side plates. Is that correct?

Plan for suspension and brake upgrades as well. You'll need it to handle the power!

If your 74 is stock, you will need a new speedometer (74 is cable driven).

Sorry - my reading comprehension sucks - I thought you were referring to using the 993 transmission - that would be too big - yours will work - but you need to be careful with the mag case 915 trannys

You know, I have a '74 and at one time thought about a 3.6 transplant. The recommendation of Instant G is a good one as they can inform you about everything you need. As to your transmission, I believe the 8.31 r/p is crucial to your new engine not breaking your box. Also, IIRC, Instant G recommended I replace my 15-inch wheels with at least 16-inch, 17-inch if possible. I'm not sure the wheel swap is entirely necessary as I've seen a '74 and '75 running stock wheels with a 3.6 at the race track.

Regardless, good luck with the project. Tell us how it comes out. The 993 engine is a beautiful work of art.

IMHO: I'd say save yourself a trouble, and buy a factory 3.6 car (964 or 993). Early cars are very much fun with 3.6, but it'll be much less expansive in the end selling your car or parts and buying factory package with better components.

Here's an idea for your transmission situation: two SC gearboxes for sale. 78 Euro SC 915 trans, and 1982 SC 915 trans
