10X17 Fuchs
I'd like to use 17" Fuchs on my soon to be 74 RS inspired 911. I know it's popular to run 9x17 and 11x17 wheels, but I'd like to have tires with more side wall showing. So, I'm thinking about 8x17 and 10x17 so I can use something like 235/40 and 285/40 tires. Since this is a street car, less rubber is not an issue.
The problem is that Lindsey Racing makes a 9.5", but not a 10" wheel. Does anyone make a welded (no bolts showing) 10" Fuchs syle wheel? Should I go with the 9.5" because the difference is so small? Thanks, Hugh |

On the Lindsey 9.5" you can mount up to 275 tires....
The side wall difference between a 275/40-17 and a 315/35-17 is minimal. |

Hugh,
 Here is a pic of the 9.5 X 17 with 275 40's up front. This car is inspired by 74 RSR. So, I wanted side wall like you. There are some additional pics of the car in the September issue of Excellence. Hey, I just thought of something...Your car is RS...so your flares are not as wide. My front flare is a 9" 930 flare and the 275 barely fits. In addition, I am using 930 hubs and spacers. I would speak directly with Mike Lindsey for direction. You might consider 8's & 9.5's by Lindsey with 225 50's & 275 40's. Well..it's best to talk to Mike and research side wall height via tire rack website. Best of luck Paul

Hugh...if you wanna ck out the 9.5 & 11 x 17 w/ 275/40 & 315 x 35 look me up some time, I'm in Houston (Woodlands).

You can run 275's on 9.5's or 11's.
And just in case any of this thread's readers aren't clear about it, the ratio number (35, 40, 45, 50 etc.) is the sidewall size expressed as a percentage of the rated width. It's not a constant size -- it's relative to the tire's width. But you can use the number and a tire calculator to figure out the overall diameter of the tire you're thinking about. The larger the overall tire diameter, the more sidewall you'll see. Problem is, the larger the overall tire diameter, the higher your car's going to sit in the air and the more problems you'll potentially have with tire-fender contact.

Here is mine with 8 and 11x17 with 235 and 315 using original 930 hubs and spacers keeping the original geometry. Michael will work with you to make it fit right.
They works great!
