Item #4 is the switch that turns the hand brake light on -- not the heater fan switch. It has been on the 911 since the first one in 1964. The heater fan came in the 70's.

It is mounted inside the housing that holds the handbrake lever. You have to remove the housing, flip it over, remove one cap screw, disconnect the wire, and remove it.

"Remove the housing" is where the trick is. The handbrake lever connects to two cables and the heater levers connect to two pull wires. I'm not sure you can "flip it over" without disconnecting those cables -- I've never done it.

Just HOW is the switch "a bit screwy"? It is mounted loose in a slot to allow adjustment of when the handbrake light comes on. A tightening screw locks it in place. If "a bit screwy" means "it's a little loose", maybe the tightening screw is missing?

thats odd.... my car has that #4 contact switch for the heater blower motor... You list the levers and it releases pressure on the contact switch and lets the switch complete the circuit... I am sure this is all it does... lifting the hand break has no effect to the switch... By screwy I mean its bent and distorted, when you lift the heater control levers it will turn the fan on but sometimes will not turn it off... you have to fool with it to get it to cut off. I could remove it (However you do that) and file and clean it and maby put a little bend back in the arms to increase chance of shutoff but I thought for 13 bucks, why fool with it???

The parking break switch must be under the lever?

I wonder if something is hooked up wrong? I will take a pic for you to see..... Or it could be that the #5 is what I need (Per the part description).... But the diagram part looks like #4................

Pics to follow...

thank you
