915 Transmission Overfill?

When I take my 1980 911SC for a spin, after about a 1/2 hour the transmission starts to drip from the vent. Could I have overfilled the trans?

The vent hole may be pointing in the wrong direction. If it is, then the ring gear can be splashing fluid up into the vent hole. Try turing the vent 180 degrees and see if this cures the "leak".

I'm pretty sure the vent hole should be pointing towards the front of the car.

Not unless you fill it thru the vent.

I read that an over filled tranny could blow seals.

I fill by jacking car so fill hole is angled up. After filling I'll lay car down on flat ground with plug off. Any excess will run out.

JW had something to say about this but, I cannot remember if it was because of splashing or preventing dirt from getting in?
He wants to point it in a specific direction, maybe he'll see this thread.
