stupid TOB question

My mechanic friend helped me mount the transaxle to the engine. He put the new TOB onto the transaxle splines, and we slide the splines into the clutch assembly and bolted the transaxle to the engine. BUT, I think the TOB is supposed to be between the pressure plate and clutch, not outside of the clutch assembly. Push vs pull types....Since him nor I know how it goes together, I would like to sort this out before we put the engine in.

To give my friend credit, he builds race cars from scratch and has been a 'chevy' mechaninc for 18 years. And Im glad for the help.

It was a roller so I couldnt make notes taking it apart

Push / pull relates to the clutch 'arm' action. The TO bearing goes (as you placed it), on the outside NOT between!
