New Project-Now I need to Change My User Name
Just sold my coupe to a very cool fellow pelican, and picked up an 81 targa which will be a lonnnng project! straight rust free car, low miles (less than 30k) converted to webbers, dry motor and tranny, runs great, but the car is Ugly!! I'll be needing some support from this group in deciding on cosmetics (color, wheels etc...) here's the first pic,...more history to follow

At this point I am thinking of stripping the car down for paint, completing the body work myself (dents, preping surface) and then getting it painted. Colors I am thinking either midnight blue, or red, I have a carerra tail that will go on while it's out for paint. Interior now that it is cleaned actually looks pretty good. The dash will come back to just about perect, but this car has the total leather package, IE doors, sills, dash, rear seats, rear panel etc...so some of it will be replaced.
Car needs to be lowered big time!, and then throw those BBS wheels away as fast as possible.. I''m thinking fuchs 7's and 8 or 9's...Question-Can I fit 9's on the rear with 245's w/out spacers? Passenger seat bottom gets re-covered by local shop and then I'm more or less done. This winter I will replace the tie rods, and do the front brakes (rears were just done, calipers/rotors and pads), replace some of the questionable wiring out back, and re-cover the top. Oh, History on the car, -Owned locally by a doctor, who had the car for 15 yrs...drove it a total of 5k miles during that time! car was maintained each year by a local wrench, and then the guy just let it sit...the engine seals/tranny were all re-done several times and are really nice, but the car has just been dying slowly because it was never used...the good news is that after jacking it up, removing all the carpet, and pulling the wheels and battery, I am pretty confident that it is rust free, accident free and physically very solid. Driving it is interesting, the car feels very tight, It's my first targa, since a 914 anyway, and by comparison it is very solid. The engine is tuned well, and the carbs are very responsive. The car has a flat spot at about 3k when it's cold, but, it warms up much faster than my coupe.... thoughts suggestions... I will keep an active link on this one so folks can see progress. And maybe I'll hold a get together over the winter with local folks, maybe to help put it back together after it gets painted! |

Here's the message I get:
[We're sorry, your session has timed out. To return to this shared album, please click on the 'View album' link in the invitation email. If you are a Shutterfly member, you can also click on the link for this album in your 'My shared albums' or 'Friends' shared albums' page.] 9's will fit on the back with 245s'. That's what I have on my car with RS/Carrera flares

To post photo go to "post reply" , post quick reply doesn't allow photos, and there is a new section right underneath the dialog box "Attach Photo".

Don't be so quick to throw the bbs wheels away - the RS wheels are very light about a lb or 2 lighter than similiar sized fuchs. Looks like a fun project.
