Help! can not get the oil tank in place!

Can not get the oil tank in place! Have a new oil tank rubber gasket that seems to be harder then the old one. Have managed the to get the upper nuts in place but lower one is at least 1" away!!

I'm afraid of breaking the oil tank!

Any suggestion??

I have not been down that road, but a couple of things to check first.
Is it the correct part #?
Does it have to be put in place in the body before the tank goes on? If you know that the part is the correct part, you might want to try a soak in a bucket of hot water just before you go to install, this way it would be softer, and more pliable. It appears the part # 911 107 192 03, would be the correct part. Good luck!! Tony.

I had the same problem. I had my wife come out and put the nuts on as I pushed on the tank.

I checked the number on the gasket and it's the right one: 911 10719203

http://www.ferdinand.se/pop_up.php?id=288

I have tried both hot water and the "heat gun", but the gasket is made of hard rubber it will not be soft in any way.

I have tighten the nuts a bit and I will see if it's better tomorrow.

(I hope you can understand my bad English)

Hans, you are perfectly clear!. This is just a thought, aren't there supposed to be some rubber spacers/bushings that go onto the mounting bolts? From the parts diagrams, the mounting studs/bolts have about 5 different parts to them:
1. bushing- 901 107 692 00
2. washer- 901 107 693 01
3. washer- 901 107 661 00
4. washer- 901 151 008 02
5. M8 nut- 999 090 004 02
Like I said, this is just a thought. Tony.

Hi Hasse, Have you tried to attach it with the gasket attached to the tank or the car?

oil tank

Just did this. Took a few good bangs with my hand to get it to sit in place. Bolts pulled in place last quarter of inch!

Tony,
did not have enough space to put the rubber washer in place, just the metal washer.
I will try tomorrow to get the rubber washers in place.

Kroggers,
Hej Pål(Swedish) could not get the oil tank in place with the gasket on, did put it on afterwords through the engine bay and then put the nuts on.

Finally got the tank in place when I discovered that the thing that holds rear fender is in the way of the lower oil line hose! How close are your oil line to the metal tube that holds the rear fender.
