Air / Mixture 87' 3.2
I have an 87' 3.2 without cat converter, with wider throttle body, with performance chip, and with updated exhaust. I need to know how to adjust to the proper mixture. I made some minor adjustments via the adjustment screw and the car runs great, but a friend of mine drove behind my car and he complained of a bad exhaust smell that prompted him to pass me as to not take in the fumes. Can I rectify this or do people just have to suck it up?

The lack of a cat will definitely produce that "smell", but that doesn't necessarily mean that your car isn't running "clean enough" imo. I realize CA is different, but at least here in NC, my de-catted, chipped 911 had no problems passing smog (back when it was required).

I have about the same set up on my 88 911. you are probably running a bit rich.
Use the Bentley manual procedure to properly adjust your idle. You may have to get a 5 gas analyzer on it if you are having "barn door" issues with your AFM. Chuck |

I would put the Cat back on.
I had the same issue last summer with the smell. If I come to a stop headed east and the wind was from the west I would get this over welling exhaust smell. I installed and removed the cat several times over a five month period and really couldn't tell any different in performance on my 86 coupe so today I have the cat installed Car RUNS GREAT!! However if someone has tuned the Car with the cat off maybe that would be different. There are several threads that speak to the preformance gains if any. It seems to me if you have a cat that is clogged up and you remove it then you may feel a Hp gain.
