New Bleeder Valve

87 Carrera. Just finished installing rebuilt calipers and new rubber brake lines. All connections look good except for one bleeder valve that leaks. Have to tighten over spec to get it to stop leaking. Is it common to have to replace bleeder valves? Should I be concerned about the valve seat inside the caliper? Should I get a new set of four valves? Help please.

My first brake bleeding proceedure was unsucessful due to this miserable little valve (that is I hope it is the valve that is the problem).

I fit new bleed screws on every caliper rebuild.

You might remove the bleed screw and inspect the taper where it seals and also inspect the seat in the caliper bleed screw hole.

Thank you for your response. Will the after market "Speed Bleeders" work as good as the "Genuine Porsche"? Set of Speeds are $25. Set of Genuine $100.

If by speed bleeders you are refering to the ones with the ball check valve they work very well. I have used them. You can find them at NAPA. You want the ones with M10 X 1 thread.

If you are buying original and paying $100 for 8 pieces stop right now. I know where you can get genuine Brembo bleed screws for about $3 each. They will work in all Brembo calipers and every ATE caliper I have seen.

Good advise from BertBeagle.

I found that the threads, and seat, for the bleeders on rebuild calipers need to be inspected carefully before installation.
Return the caliper if the bleeder fits very sloppy or shows damage to the bottom taper.

I also need to replace my bleeder screw. BertBeagle, where can I find the $3 Brembo bleed screws?
Thanks.

BUMP

I have found some bleed screws at a FLAPS for about a dollar or two. Just be sure to get the proper metric size (generally M10x1.0 or M7x1.0)

I don't understand why Pelican's catalog has the 84-89 Carrera A caliper bleed screw at $24.75. That's got to be a mistake. There's nothing special about the bleed valves on these calipers to demand such a difference in price from the SC or any of the other bleeders they list.

I have used them as well .... on my bike, BMW R11OORT. 80K mikes and no brake issues/corrision etc.
Would teflon tape wrapped carefully around the threads stop the leak? and be safe in a brake application.
