Pertronix doesnt offer the igniter for the Bosch 008 distributor,,, and I'm not sold on the Crane(search button has revealed good/bad). With the MSD 6 A and SS coil I'm running I seem to quickly burn up the points...Is the aftermarket ignition causing this or Is there a resistor I'm missing that could remedy it ? If so What type and where does it install ? Any input appretiated,, P.o. installed the system as per the MSD diagram.. Thanks.

I have no hard answer to your unusual problem.
I dumped the resistor Beru plug wires and stock rev limiting rotor. I use magnacore wires and the 72-77 VW non-rev limiting rotor, pelican pn Bos-0403. If your going to a local parts store then the 04038 pn made by Bosch should suffice. I also have the SS MSD coil without any resistor. I completely rewired the stock positive MSD feed w/10ga marine. A wild guess is that the points have a poor ground if you've eliminated the problem, imo, Beru wires and rev limiting rotor already. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186036773.jpg |

that looks like the non rev limiting rotor Im using, so bad ground as in the eng/tranny ground strap ? Thanks... |

the points are grounded inside the dizzy. There maybe a crimp connector at the wire between the movable point plate and the housing. "Crimp" in like a piece of brass tube squashed at both ends instead of solder. The dizzy body is mostly grounded through the bolt and fastener unless there is a ground wire attached to the outside housing. again, only a wild guess. |
