Why pay $140 for something so basic?

Just replaced my alternator and now that it's all back together it seems the bearing unit in the fan is going out...the replacement part will cost over $100. So I got to thinking and why not go with the Patrick Motorsports single pulley conversion. Looked up the part on the PM site....$140

Am I missing something? The piece does not seem that difficult to make, other than being balanced what is the cost?

Price for rebuilding only between $120 to $150 (replace bearing, brush, etc)

I am not talking about the alternator, sorry if not clear on that.

I am talking about the bearing inside the fan, allowing the fan and it's pulley to spin slower than the alternator shaft and it's pulley.

I would like to drop down to the single belt driving both via one pulley, that's when I noticed it's not any cheaper to do this now although I would save on belts for the rest of my life.

Sorry, somehow my mind was in the alternator's bearing.

Are you talking about the RS fan hubs and pulley halves?

the part that is bad on my car is: 964-106-051-30-M260 as you posted. What I wanted to do was change this out with the patrick motorsport piece that converts it from the two belts to one.

above is the part, have seen others do this and likely not at $100 or more.

I am confused at how this part works? Anyone have some insight?
