Friggin door lock adj driving me nuts!

My battle continues trying to adjust my driver side actuater (solenoid) after replacing the locking rod (old metal rod with nylon socket) with the new type solid plastic rod that is not adjustable (the actuater must be adj instead).

Bentley says to loosen the two adj screws that hold the actuater to the door metal. With the door in the open position, pull the actuater all the way down and then bring it up 2mm and tighten. I have not tried this yet but have adjusted before and the lock seemed to work ok.....then when I put everything back together - same ole, same ole.

I cannot get the driver door to lock without first priming the door lock button manually before I close the door and even then it takes up to 4-5 tries to get it to lock. I'm 99.9% sure everything is else in the central lock system is working properly and this is merely an adj issue.

I've had the door panel off countless times to the point that I dread removing it another time. I've got to completely remove the door speaker in my set up and disconnect wiring to crossovers hidden under the arm rest. And of course there are all the wires to the dreaded window switches

Questions:

(1) Has anyone had success with the adjustment process
outlined in Bentley?
(2) Anyone got any other tricks/tips on properly adjusting
(3) Can I get to the actuater adj screws by just removing the
door panel screws and reaching in WITHOUT removing the
entire door panel? I'm thinking I can. (Update: I'm right - I did)

Thanks!

Well, turns out my problem was not with the actuator adjustment after all. I had installed dynamat Xtreme (w/ gooey tar backing) on the doors and it was making contact with the connecting rod (part #21) and binding the lock function. Cut the dynamat away and it's all good now!
