ignition switch (key problems)
Hi
This just happened to me, first time ever. I put the key in the ignition and the key would not turn. Just like if it was not the right key. I played with the key for 5 minutes gentle back and forth and it turned. Could the ignition switch get "loose"? |
First thing to try is direct spray lube injected into the key hole. Use liberally. Complete assembly is made from cast aluminum, and I think it "galls" from lack of regular lube. And the last thing you want to do is replace the entire unit at 500 dollars. I use REM (as in Remington) lube, which is made for lubricating firearms. There are a number of locks, sears, spurs in the action of O/U shotguns. Many posts here re this problem.

I assume the steering wheel was not against the lock.

Oh here we go....wd40 or not to wd40!!
|
It could be the lock mechanism or the key. Try the lube first, then another key, then replace the switch, if necessary.
