ignition switch (key problems)

Hi

This just happened to me, first time ever. I put the key in the ignition and the key would not turn. Just like if it was not the right key. I played with the key for 5 minutes gentle back and forth and it turned. Could the ignition switch get "loose"?

First thing to try is direct spray lube injected into the key hole. Use liberally. Complete assembly is made from cast aluminum, and I think it "galls" from lack of regular lube. And the last thing you want to do is replace the entire unit at 500 dollars. I use REM (as in Remington) lube, which is made for lubricating firearms. There are a number of locks, sears, spurs in the action of O/U shotguns. Many posts here re this problem.

I assume the steering wheel was not against the lock.

It could be the lock mechanism or the key. Try the lube first, then another key, then replace the switch, if necessary.

Had this problem 2 weeks ago before just as I was leaving for a long weekend. I was stuck in my garage with 500 miles to drive that day. WD40 and problem gone.
