73T - Bob Watson Rolling Road - Base Run

I had planned for some time to get the 911 over to Bob, as I had read good reviews here, and knew that Tuthills took their cars there as well.

So, with the sun shining, I took the pleasant cross country route from Stratford over to Middle Aston.

Bob is a really nice chap, willing to explain and spend time as required.

I explained to him that I wanted a baseline run, so that I could check the overall condition of the engine, and gain advise on any tuning etc. that may be required at a separate session.

Whilst James (Hot66) posted of his 198bhp from his 'S', I am happy to post a healthy 140bhp baseline from my 'T'.

The picture of the computer screen is in Kw and Nm, so in old money, Bob converted that to :-

140 bhp @ 5830rpm
134 ft/lb @ 4380.

There is a nice flat torque curve (can you have a flat curve Smile ), that he suggested would make for a good rally car.

The following observations were found, and I will return for a tune up and an updated post in due course.

- the 10bhp over stock is really down to the SSI Heat Exchangers
- speedo reading 60mph at a true 53mph (later electronic version ?)
- tacho reading 4,600rpm at a true 4,000rpm (cannot work that one out)
- idle jets too rich so using more fuel that needed.
- a general tune up will see 150bhp - roll on the next visit.

Finally, there is a short video of the dyno run here :-

"would make for a good rally car"

Yes, that's a great idea.

Yes, absolutely. Extremely knowledgable and helpful.

Ha! Right underneath your leftmost bumper overrider in that first photo, you can see the scorch my wastegate pipe left when I went in June to check my AFR's. Freaked me out at the time - looked around because I realised the room was filling with smoke, and noticed almost the entire exhaust system casting a bright orange-yellow glow from under the car...

Bob was just amused - probably at my agitation, I think..

Nice looking longhood you have there.
