Chip Problem?

I installed a Steve Wong chip in my 88 cab a few weeks ago. Great boost in performance! However, lately the car will lug (i.e. buck) at low RPM's and will also occasionally smoke at start-up and smoke when engine is cold and leaving from a dead stop.

Engine has 70K miles and I didn't have these issues with the stock chip. Any ideas?

Did you change the oil or top it off recently?

Yes, dealer changed oil recently. But wouldn't too much oil have showed up as a problem right after the oil change? The smoking didn't start until after I installed the SW chip.

Email or give SteveW a call. His customer service and knowledge on this is second to none.

Did you change the chip back to see if it cured the problems up?

Cheers

Did you take the catalytic converter off when you installed the chip? Sometimes (it did with my car) the catalytic converter can mask the smoking at start up and leaving from a dead stop (after being run hard)

Mine ended up being worn valve guides (at 56,000 miles)

Check your oil just to rule that out. Then switch back to the stock chip and see if it goes away. Lastly, call Steve. He's a great guy and will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy.
