Driver Side Elect Window Problem

My driver side elect window will not roll up on my 87. When I move the switch up there is no sound, but when I move the switch down I can hear the motor trying to pull the window down some more. The window is stuck in the down position.

I have pulled the switches out and checked the wires to make sure all are attached...no problems there and there have been no fuse problems or slow window operation in the past...it just would not roll up today.

I have searched this Forum and found that one or more of the switches may be the problem and that a bad switch may affect the other window.

The passenger side window switch on the driver's side door operates the passenger side window properly and the window switch on the on the passengers side door correctly operates the passenger side window.

Should I just get a new switch and install it, or is there a way to test one or all of the switches to see if it really is a switch problem?

The driver window switch is not operating the 'up' position correctly. If you can hear the motor wind chances are that it is OK ... (a costly and time demanding replacement affair).

You can simply purchase a new switch (~ $20) or 'borrow' the passenger switch (on the drive side) and confirm the above.

Let us know... (?)

Thanks Jascha! I didn't know which switch to switch! I'll go out and try that and repost.

Ordered a new switch from our host and it arrived today. It took longer to unhook the Neg. cable to the battery than it did to install the new switch. WORKS GREAT! Now I can close my window and test the new A/C improvements.
Thanks

I used a white grease pencil to mark the wires and the pin locations on the old and the new switch just to keep things straight.
