Porsche Crest Headlight relay kits

Hello all,

Just a quick fyi… In response to a number of customers requesting genuine Bosch relays for their relay kits, I have decided to switch. All future relay kits will come with Bosch relays. The price has been increased from $25 to $28 to cover the additional expense of the Bosch relays.

Thanks,
Marcus B. Sucro

Marcus,

I need one. Can you post your info here for purchasing? I left your info you sent me the other day out at work, and I am on vacation right now.

Thanks,
Shane Van Wey

Sucro relay kit = Best $25 I've spent in years.

Marcus,
Any reason other than "a number of customers requesting genuine Bosch relays for their relay kits", for the switch?
Having purchased your kit two years ago, is there any reason I should expect the non-genuine Bosch relays to perform any differently? Longevity?
Thanks,
Paul

Okay, well my relays arrived yesterday. So total time was maybe 1-1/2 weeks. Nicely labeled wires, good wire-by-wire instruction sheet. No pictures but I'm sure I will find those here.

Decided to install the Sucro Relay Kit today (I saw Markus last weekend) and it was a breeze. I have not mounted the relays in the final position yet (hesitant about drilling holes), so I used some extra strong double-sided tape for now. All that is left, is to put some zip ties on the wires to neaten things up.

I have not upgraded the headlights yet, but wanted to install the relays anyway.

Thanks Markus!

Dave

P.S. Dan, here's a pic in case you have not found any yet

Marcus,

I just received my kit in the mail today -thanks for the fast shipment.

One minor question about the relays. You mention above that you have switched to Bosch, but the kit came with Tyco. I know that Tyco has acquired some of Bosch's business, but I wasn't sure if Bosch was no longer manufacturing these relays at all, and only the Tyco ones are available now. Or if there are now two sources of them (Bosch & Tyco).

Not a big deal, just curious.

thanks,
Frank

Frank,

I had exactly the same concern when my $28 relay kit came today with Tyco relays until I saw your post and did a quick internet search and found the news release below. Very pleased with the workmanship and speedy response from Marcus. Can't wait to get my new H4's from our host installed.

Thanks.

Mike

LONDON — Tyco Electronics is to acquire the automotive relay business of Robert Bosch GmbH subject to anti-trust regulatory approvals.

This business will be integrated into the relay segment of Tyco Electronics Global Automotive Division and will be transferred to the Tyco Electronics Automotive Relays Competency Centre in Evora / Portugal.

The acquisition of these product lines provides an platform for Tyco Electronics to expand its 24V product range used in trucks and busses, in the high current segment as well as in the spare part and retrofit markets.

Marcus,

I got mine a week or so ago with Tycos. I was (I must admit) a bit disappointed to find they were not Bosch... If one should fail, will a Bosch replacement part fit? Can you give the part #'s for the replacement parts for purchasers who have Tycos?

Thanks.

Slodave, the right hand relay hole can be mounted to the body with the existing lower relay panel screw. See here for some pics:

According to the press release quoted above, Tyco now owns Bosch. In other words, what you got were Bosch relays, now owned by Tyco. No need to worry.

In fact, this vendor sells Tyco relays, and refers to them as "formerly Bosch."

I noticed when I read your thread yesterday . Thanks for pointing it out. That is first on the list of fixes!

Ian,
My vendor was supplying a mix of Bosch and Tyco relays when I first changed my kit from Chinese relays to Bosch. Over time they have converted to solely Tyco. I don't know if you got the posts regarding the situation... Tyco bought the Bosch relay business and Tyco is an American company.

Hope this helps,
Marcus

Marcus,
Please post or PM me with your address for check.

I would like to buy.

I have heard that running 100watt hi-beams can benifit from quad relays (one for each low beam and one for each hi beam) anyone have and pros or cons for this thought???

Either way, I'd like a couple of kits.

Thanks,
Paul

I was one of the first ( I think) customers of the Sucro relay kit during the early Rennlist days. Marcus and I had a lot of dialogue on wire size used and temp ratings, etc. I used the provided "cube" relays which will work just fine. However, being the anal sort that I am... shortly thereafter I switched to HD Bosch and got them from Waytek Wire, inc.

www.waytekwire.com

All "cube" type realys with 4 pin-outs should fit ...for those that asked. Normal rating is 30A.

From the Waytek catalogue, I used the 50A rated Bosch units ( Bosch # 0 332 019 110), I got a data sheet at one time from Bosch that ( IIRC) shows silver-material "points" contacts are used, and they rate at more millions of cycles life than "standard" relays. For all practical purposes all units should work OK, but I wanted the "deluxe" set up.

I just used the standard round relays and put them in unused holes in my fuse panel. Looks totally stock.....13 years without a problem.

You can buy the relay holders from Porsche (they cost a few bucks) or just cut them out of any scrap harnesses that you may have laying around.

Personally, I like the look far better.....just looks like they belong there, no holes, no drilling....

i don't get it. i read all over pelican about a year ago that changing from H1's to H4's demands you need a relay kit to handle it. my scandinavian credit card had problems with paypal for marcus it wouldnt accept it so to cut a long story short after a lot of hassle with the card and paypal i decided to try the lights without the relay (i'm impatient). i've 'changed over' to H4's with 2 cars and had no eletrical fires, or any other problems - why do you need a relay?
this is not a diss to marcus, he was really fast and efficient, i'm sure the relays ace and he was really sweet and nice to deal with, and pelican has proved the relay's popular but i just dont see why you need it? (sorry!)

The problem is that even with the stock headlights there is a lot of current draw through the stalk switch. This often results in the contacts inside the switch getting burned. Relays put power directly to the lights without it going through the switch first, thereby preventing the switch from getting fried.
