Count me in for a couple of them. Thanks!

Any word on changing the "D"? The notch does the trick. Also, any idea when the scwdp web site will be up and running? Anyone?

Terry,

I have just been really busy. My wife's business is taking off right now and consumes a lot of my spare time. As a result I am becoming sleep deprived again, I think! I will try to make a dedicated effort to the website when I get back from Hawaii at the end of the month. I also hope to have the shirts, stickers, etc. ready to go about that time.

I did not hear back from the guys at the badge place yet. I sent them an email with the D notched out. I also asked if maybe they could shave a little more curver into the right side of it to see which would work best. I also had a couple of quality issues I want to make sure are non-issues before I say yeah, we want 50, 100 ???

If there is a web deign guru who would like to help me with the website, I would welcom the help. I had one guy offer, but have since lost his email address somewhere in the grand abyss...

Patience grasshopper...:D

I would like one, price? and were to send the money. thanks

Can you tell i'm excited? Shirts, stickers, etc..... I'm in 100% Take your time. As long as I know the web site is not dead. The badge looks great from the pics, especially if you can do it w/ the modified notch in the "D". Thanks for all your effort in doing this! Unfortunately i'm an Artist/Illustrator and not a web guy. so I could paint you a picture of a great web page.:)

Interested here plus, I'm interested in getting a couple of custom badges made. Who should I go to for these???

Cooper911SC 08-07-2007 09:03 PM

I'm in for 2 also! Keep us posted.

As far as your ?? about how the attachment to the engine grill is done...(single large nut welded/brazed to center/top back of badge)...that is how the Porsche Parade San Diego badges were done this year.

Unfortunately that didn't line up well with our 993 engine grill or the Carrera wing on my SC...I made a little bracket with 2 studs sticking down and JB'd it to the back of the badge.

Thanks for your hard work!

Cooper

khamul02 08-08-2007 05:34 AM

Cooper, good point. Are they going to fit on a wing?

Moke81 08-08-2007 06:09 AM

Shane, just a thought, maybe a deadline on ordering so no one gets left out.

Good call. Once the design is finalized...I like it now...I hope you post an order link or page. I think it's HOT. Thanks for your efforts.

SCWDP911 08-08-2007 06:47 AM

Need some feedback guys.

Hey all,

I need some feedback from you. I got a response back from the badgemaker last night. I was a little disappointed in their response, but trying to keep an open mind. It may be my inexperience with badges conflicting with my desire for perfection on little things like this. I know the attached email is long, but please take a few minutes and read through and tell me what you think.

I appreciate it guys. I will set an order date later today once I get some of your feedback.

Thanks,SV

Mick,

Like I said, I really was not trying to be offensive at all. It is nice work. Perhaps I did not know enough about what to expect. I will put it to the group and see what they think. More of them are more familiar with badges than I anyway, and they may correct me on all of this.

The D is definitely a sore spot with a lot of them already, so we may opt for another mold regardless.

The other thing that has to be corrected is the mount. That nut you use will not fit through our grilles, unless you orientate it flat to flat, which throws off overall badge orientation. Could we fix this somehow?

I will get back to you later today when I get some more feedback from the others.

Thanks,

Shane Van Wey

Hi Shane,

Glad to know you've received the badge. :) You'll find my replies below.

Thanks,

Mick

Mick,

Got the badge yesterday. Overall, looks great. I do have a couple of concerns though.

1. The shape is not quite round. It has several flat spots. Is this just because this is a "prototype"? This I'm afraid is because the items are made by hand. A perfect badge can never be made using our processes. Its completely wrong to put our products up against machine finished OEM pieces. That's like comparing old-fashioned calligraphy to a Microsoft Word printout.

2. The text on outer ring has a couple of spots that the letters did not come out quite right -mainly the P in Porsche. Almost looks like a router was engraving it and got to far into the edge... The colors are first baked onto the surface and later on sanded until all excess colors disappear, liken it to using putty where you first fill a gap then sand it until the surface is uniform. The sanding part is responsible for the distortion.

3. The paint in the center (black background behind SCWDP) is a little on sloppy side around the edges.

Can be improved but cannot be made perfect. Again, this is because our badges are handmade. Human error will always be present.

4. The D in SCWDP in the center... it looks more like an O. This one is not necessarily your fault, but a product of the font. I was wondering if there was anything you might be able to do though to make it look more like a D, maybe a little more rounding on the two right side corners?

I'm afraid not, Shane. Another mold will be required for such an adjustment.

Overall, I really like it. I have had a good positive response form those I have shown it to. But, I am selling these to a rather particular bunch and do not want any issues when they receive them and are able to look more closely at them. Maybe I am being too picky. Honestly, I have never had a car badge and so I have nothing to compare to.

That's ok, Shane. Frankly I'm a bit offended because we're real proud of our craft. Don't worry about that though. :)

Modesty aside, they're really beautiful for what they are. The keyword here is "for what they are". I think what you are looking for is an OEM-grade emblem. If that's the case, I can help locate a supplier for you.

Drdogface 08-08-2007 07:15 AM

Overall I think the badge looks just fine. The small ding on the P in Porsche is no big deal and the D in SCWDP is not worth a new mould either most likely. No idea what the mould cost you though...likely too much to do it over. I certainly still in for one if they look as good as the pics you have posted.

Cooper911SC 08-08-2007 07:21 AM

I think they will be acceptable to most of us. I'm sure many on here have the skills to use a tiny brush and touch up un-even edges if they bother us. (I know that isn't really your idea of a great product being delivered to us picky customers.) The Parade badges from Portland had some flaws in them too. I think it is just a hand made and slightly imperfect deal.

My .02 for the tally.

Coop

Bob Butler 08-08-2007 07:57 AM

I think the minor flaws add character to it. If you've got any hand made jewelry, its the same way, and it adds a certain value in my opinion that distinguishes it from the cheaper mass produced pieces. After all, aren't hood badges jewelry for our cars? Don't we want the best for our four wheeled ladies? Then hand made is the only way to go.

Count me in, flaws and all.

BTW: You mentioned the web geek whose e-mail got lost in the abyss... I'll send it to you again via PM.

No, No, No, my badge must be perfect. Like my car.....

Oh, yeah. My car looks like sh**.

I think the badge you have there is perfect. No issues from me.

Just bring on the order info!

Thanks for all your efforts on this. Super job.

DaddyGlenn 08-08-2007 10:25 AM

I wish my car looked as good as the badge. The badge doesn't have any rust, scratches or dings that I can see.

Let's start production!

Moke81 08-08-2007 11:17 AM

Shane, with it being hand made I kind of look at it like hand made glassware each one is different.
Not a big deal to me. It will have a weathered look to in a year anyway.

Pricing

OK guys,

I am still awaiting reply from these guys as far as the mount. It will have to be changed as it may not fit right in our grilles with the right orientation. So, please be patient for one more day while I get the last bugs worked out. I have rec'd enough feedback from you to decide that we'll just have to deal with the "D", I guess it can be a conversation piece, right!?

The price will be $38 each, or 2 for $68. Both of those prices will include shipping/packaging to anywhere in US and Canada. Orders outside US will have to email me their ship to info and we will do actual shipping costs on case by case basis. I need to look closer at postage rate for that. I am not accepting payment right now. I would prefer to do this through Paypal if you can, just to keep it simple. If you cannot do Paypal, I will take MO or check. When I ask for orders, please email me with your shipping info, how you are paying, how many you want...

Once we place the order, it will take up to 4 weeks to receive the badges...

I will try to be ready to accept orders tonight or tomorrow, depending when I hear back from the guy.

Thanks,
Shane
