It kind of makes me want to get an old Targa and try something like this.

John Walker built one too, using some parts from the 89 Speedster and did it to a long hood 911t.

I remember that 67 from a magazie article years ago.. I still have the mag somwhere, couldn't throw it away because that little car was so hot then and now!

Anybody know if its still around and who owns it?

The Townes speedster is very much alive and well ! Saw it the other afternoon cruising east on Ventura Blvd in Encino. Then Techweenie spotted it on the freeway another day
It gave me the inspiration (but unfortunately not the time!) to turn my first 911 targa into one. Sigh... i figure maybe in '09 if i am lucky !

According to JW, it's a 73 and:
"it's an all metal rear bumper using a center section of an early front bumper to join the early rear pieces, with SC rear fender extensions blended in. some wrap around sheetmetal finishes the bottom. it has a monty turbo muffler on the 3.0 turbo engine, so i had to go down kind of far to cover it."

Stan Townes built that '66 or '67 Speedster, and there have been several articles about it over the years, with different wheels, paint schemes, etc. Originally it wore 15 x 7 American Racing Torque Thrust D's, but some apperances at shows had it wearing different shoes ...

Joe Rusz of Road & Track published a feature story in his special compilation for 1972 ... the large 11" x 17" format slick trade paper called Porsche Sport '72. Grady posted scans in the thread below, and there is even a shot with Grady next to the car!!! Vasek Polak's racing operation and dealership was also chronicled in that special.

Sorry, but it was Road & Track... may have also been and article in VW & Porsche but it was first featured in Road & Track
