Probraking fronts installed

I installed my Probraking Super SL4 upgrade last week. I've attached some pictures below. I had a track day at Gateway on Tuesday where we come off the front straight at 130-140mph (depending on my courage in the bowl) to 40 for turn 1-2 combo. On track they performed brilliantly, no fade no boiled fluid, using Ate Blue. I was braking later and harder than I was on my stock Carrera fronts in no time.

Last year with my stock Carrera brakes I was boiling the fluid (ATE) after only a few laps. I did change out to Hawk HP plus pads on a second round at gateway last year to see if they made a difference on early fade. They were much better for the few laps that the fluid lasted.

Anyway, I was not willing to give up the look of my anniversary Fuchs and the Lindsey rims were very hard to come by. Seems that 16x6 Fuchs have become a high demand item these days. Dave at Lindsey told me he needs 4 rims to cut out the centers and build their two piece rims. So, upgrading to the "Big Red" or equivalent packages would have required a different style rim.

So here they are, Dave at Probraking was very accommodating with quick shipping (overnight!), pad info, and explaining his hardware strengths and weakness'. I was very impressed with the quality of the components in the box and even my skeptical mechanic admitted they seemed well made and were an interesting solution to the Fuchs/brakes conundrum. He's a Porsche purist so he wanted me to hold out for Lindseys and Big Reds.

Very nice! Good to hear from someone that has firsthand experience with them. I'd be interested in how the rotors look after a half dozen track outings.

Funny you mention the rotors. The only "custom" element of the system is the rotor, so I ordered a second pair! My local mechanic told me not to worry because he has a source for custom made rotors.

Aluminum rotors?????????

Now that would be a feat!

Wil...No they are not aluminum, they are steel (or iron..whatever) but the calipers are cast aluminum.

Shaun..yes that's what I bought, I would have purchased them from Pelican and saved myself the shipping cost but I did not know they carried them now. I had engaged directly with Dave at Probraking when he had his own site. Next time....

Did you by any chance ever try Ti shields on your stock calipers to see if they would minimize or eliminate the fluid boiling with the Hawk pads??? It doesn't look like you have much additional mass in those rotors to me ...

I did not try the shields. I spoke with a few with stock Carrera brakes and decided to move directly to an upgrade.

They are 286mm X 32mm with directional veined rotors.
