911 missfire problem
Could anybody give any input as to what could be causing a missfire on my 1979 sc. I took it out on the road yesterday and she was fine,so got her out of the garage today and washed and waxed the bodywork and now when I try to accelerate she runs really rough. When i was using the hose I was careful not to get too much water in the engine area. Any ideas where I should start to look for the problem. Many Thanks

You may have a crack in your distributor cap. If so it doesn't take much water to make it misfire.

If nothing happened except the washing, I would agree with Jerry. You could even have a "leak" in one of the high tension cables or connectors that will misfire with very little encouragement. Dry all electric parts thououghly and try again.

If you really want to get down to it let the car idle with the deck lid open. Preferably in the dark
take a spray bottle of water and give it a shot towards the dist. cap and wires. If you have a light show then you have found your leak.

Please read the following thread all the way through, then check the green coax signal cable from the distributor on your engine:
coil to buy question

It appears that a small amount of water is causing your ignition wires to short out too easily meaning your ignition wires may need to be replaced.
