Okay....I own a 1981 911 and the guy installing my C2 bodykit is asking where my heat shield is...first of all, that is a part that is never mentioned in any of the kits, be it NR automotive or betterbodies or BW any distributor...so do I need one? and where can I get it...like fast...

For the rear bumper you need a heat shield around the muffler to keep the bumper/paint from melting. Your stock bumper had one. I made one from some thin sheet metal when I installed a fiberglass bumper.

911sc and heat shield
where will it go, over the exhaust? Can I go ahead and have the bumper installed and just avoid driving it except back home and do it myself? The bodyshop guy is flipping out as he has other cars to get to and I am "holding him up"...can I get something from home depot...

I was going to say, like Jerry, that you could probably make one fairly easily out of some aluminum sheet.

the bodyman is saing that my original bumper doesn't have one....yeah...whatever...in any event, can I get by with driving it home 5 miles and DIY-ing it later...does it need to be the length of the bumper? or just isolated up above the exhaust? Man, thinks so much for you guys' help!

Rob, you will have to remove the bumper to diy. This may not be a good option. Try to do what is shown in the thread I posted or get the shop to do it. It shouldn't take long. At least they told you about it up front.
They could have installed the bumper and let it melt.
